DescriptionAlistair King is a singer/songwriter based in Melbourne Australia. For his music think 'Paul Kelly meets Nick Cave in Jim Morrison's bathroom' except it's not as gloomy as it sounds. If there's a common theme running through all his songs it's the lyrical depth and rhythm. Other elements come and go, a bit reggae, a bit funk, a bit country whatever. 'Being a little older, you find you have more to write about, and much more depth to your writing' he says. 'The charts are dominated by very lightweight music - always have been - but a lot of people are looking for something they can connect with more.' Alistair performs his songs solo and with his band KAHOOTZ (see myspace.com/kahootzband). Alistair is currently working on his first 'real' CD release. M.U.K., the Melbourne Ukulele Kollective
DescriptionM.U.K. was formed in March 2004 to provide a vehicle for the large number of ukulele players that reside in Melbourne, both amateur and professional, to perform and exchange ukulele related information, tunes, etc. This quickly gave rise to the MUK Big Band which has played at many festivals: Melbourne Fringe, Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne International Arts Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Brunswick Music Festival, Darebin Music Feast and High Vibes Day. We also play at pubs, schools, parks, theatres, race courses, etc.. The Big Band currently rehearse at the The Cornish Arms Hotel, 163A Sydney Road, Brunswick; between Glenlyon Rd/Dawson St. and Union St. Beginners Class with Bernard from 6-7pm Rehearsal from 7-10pm'ish. every Wednesday from 6:30-9;30pm. All are welcome to join the Big Band! We run an open-uke night called Klub MUK on the first Tuesday of the month at Bar 303, 303 High St., Northcote,7:30-10:30pm. Free! We often have special guest performers from interstate and overseas but any ukulele players are welcome to get up and do their thang. Let There Be Uke!
